The Three Kabutos That Replaced Every Other Kabuto on the Market

Every Kabuto sold before this lineup was built one of three ways: cut sheet metal, 3D printed metal, or cheap polymer. Each of those has a failure mode, and shooters found all of them. We stopped carrying every one of them.

What we sell now is three Kabuto FRTs built on carbon fiber and machined all-metal housings, with a 316 stainless polished and bead-blasted ambidextrous selector on every one, made in Fort Worth, Texas. $119.99, $134.99, $149.99. That is the whole lineup.

And they are built exclusively for The Takedown Tools. You cannot buy this brand of Kabuto anywhere else. Nobody else is selling a Kabuto at this level of construction, and nobody else is selling one at this price.

What Everyone Else Is Selling

Look at what a metal-body Kabuto costs elsewhere. CNC housings from other sellers run roughly $175 to $250, and they still ship with a weak selector, usually printed polymer, sometimes a bare mil-spec cut lever. You pay metal-body money and the single most-handled part on the trigger is still the part that fails first.

Our Full Metal is $149.99. It comes with a 316 stainless polished and bead-blasted ambi selector as standard, not as an upsell. That is a better selector than what sits on triggers costing $100 more.

And nobody else has these at all:

→ A Kabuto housing machined to the LaRue MBT profile. If you run an MBT two-stage, no other Kabuto on the market fits.

→ A Geissele plate, a $20 add-on available on all three models, so a Geissele trigger runs a Kabuto without a fight. Nobody else offers one.

→ A full lineup where every model ships with a stainless ambi selector. Not one of them, all of them.

Why the Old Housings Failed

Cut sheet metal Stamped and folded parts carry loose tolerances, and those tolerances stack. An FRT lives or dies on where its reset surfaces sit relative to the carrier.
3D printed metal Printed parts vary from print to print and from machine to machine, and internal porosity is a real thing. A part that measures right can still fail where it matters.
Weak polymer Heat plus high-rate cycling softens and deforms cheap polymer. Selectors made this way wear at the detent and go loose. This is the one we returned the most of, and it is why we discontinued the older generations outright.

None of that is theoretical. We carried an earlier generation with a printed selector and watched the return rate tell the story. Rather than keep selling it, we cut it and went to the manufacturer for housings and selectors that hold up.

The Lineup

Kabuto Tex Ambi — $119.99

The cost-efficient entry into a real FRT. Carbon fiber housing, metal internals, and the 316 stainless ambi selector. Fits standard AR-15 builds and pistol-caliber carbines. If you want forced reset function without spending $299 and up, this is the one. See the Tex Ambi.

Kabuto Tex Ambi — carbon fiber housing with the 316 stainless ambi selector standard.

Kabuto LaRue Cut — $134.99

The first Kabuto machined specifically for LaRue MBT two-stage triggers. The bottom of the housing is cut to the MBT profile, so it drops in where a standard Kabuto housing will not. Same high-end metal components, same 316 stainless ambi selector. If you run an MBT, this is the only Kabuto that fits right. See the LaRue Cut.

The LaRue Cut housing, machined to the MBT two-stage profile. No other Kabuto has it.

Full Metal Kabuto — $149.99

The first true all-metal Kabuto. The body and housing are 100 percent CNC machined metal, the main pin is bearing steel, and there are zero printed parts anywhere in the unit. The 3-position 316 stainless selector gives you Safe, Semi, and reset mode from either side. Launch price is $149.99 against a $199.99 regular retail. See the Full Metal.

Running a Geissele? Add the Plate — $20

Geissele trigger groups sit differently than mil-spec, and that difference is exactly where FRT fitment problems start. The Geissele plate solves it. It is a $20 add-on available on all three Kabuto models, so you can run a Geissele trigger and a Kabuto in the same lower without fitting headaches or guesswork.

Between the LaRue Cut housing and the Geissele plate, this lineup covers the two most common high-end trigger setups in the AR world. No other Kabuto on the market covers either one.

Which One Is Yours

  • Standard AR-15 or PCC build, best value: Tex Ambi.
  • Running a LaRue MBT: LaRue Cut. Nothing else fits that profile.
  • Running a Geissele: any of the three, plus the $20 Geissele plate.
  • Want zero printed parts and the longest service life: Full Metal.

What Every Kabuto Still Requires

Housing quality does not change the build requirements. Every Kabuto needs an M16-profile (full-auto cut) BCG, a heavy buffer to keep bolt bounce in check, and full-power ammo. Run it dry a dozen times before live fire to smooth the contact surfaces.
