Round by Round Breakdown

Round 1: Price

Partisan Disruptor
$299 — Nearly Half the Price
The Partisan Disruptor retails at $299 standalone. Our bundle with M16 BCG and H2 buffer brings it to $449.99 — still under what Rare Breed charges for the trigger alone.
✓ Wins Round 1
Rare Breed FRT-15L3
$499–$599 Depending on Retailer
The FRT-15L3 commands a significant premium as the original market leader. At $499+ you're paying for brand recognition as much as performance.
Loses Round 1
The $200 gap is real money. That's another H2.5 buffer, an AR Takedown Tool, a case of ammo, and still change left over. The Partisan Disruptor doesn't ask you to pay a premium for being first to market.

Round 2: Patent — This One Matters More Than People Realize

Partisan Disruptor
US Patent 9146067 — Predates Rare Breed
The Partisan Disruptor is built on Patent 9146067 — an assisted reset design that predates every patent Rare Breed holds. Engineering testimony in the February 2026 court hearing confirmed the Disruptor operates through a mechanically distinct mechanism. The court denied Rare Breed's emergency injunction. Partisan ships without restriction.
✓ Wins Round 2
Rare Breed FRT-15L3
Four Post-2018 Patents
Rare Breed holds four patents and sued Partisan claiming infringement. The court denied their emergency injunction request. Evidence at the hearing suggested Rare Breed's own FRT-15L3 may infringe Partisan's older patent — flipping the narrative entirely.
Loses Round 2

Round 3: Trigger Pull Weight

Partisan Disruptor
3.75–4.1 lbs in Both Modes
The Disruptor maintains a consistent 3.75–4.1 lb pull in both semi-auto and Enhanced Semi-Auto (FRT) modes. That consistency means no adjustment in feel between modes — CMP Service Rifle Match compliant.
✓ Wins Round 3
Rare Breed FRT-15L3
4.5–5 lbs Semi / 6.5–7 lbs FRT
The FRT-15L3 has a significantly heavier pull in FRT mode — 6.5–7 lbs versus 4.5–5 lbs in semi. That's a meaningful difference in feel when switching between modes mid-session.
Loses Round 3

Round 4: Installation

Partisan Disruptor
True Drop-In Cassette — 10 Minutes
The cassette design means the entire trigger assembly ships pre-timed and pre-assembled. Drop it into the trigger pocket, install pins, done. One Torx wrench for the anti-walk pins. No fitting, no adjustments, no gunsmith.
✓ Wins Round 4
Rare Breed FRT-15L3
Drop-In With Separate Selector
The FRT-15L3 also installs without gunsmithing but uses a separate ambidextrous selector that must be installed correctly alongside the trigger group. Slightly more involved than the Partisan cassette.
Loses Round 4

Round 5: Durability Testing

Rare Breed edges Partisan here on raw round count — 10,000 rounds versus Partisan's 6,000+ — but context matters. Partisan's 6,000-round test used a course of fire derived from the USMC M27 IAR evaluation criteria, one of the most demanding sustained-fire protocols in the military. That's a more rigorous test environment than a standard round-count torture test. Both triggers are built to last. Neither has a durability problem in the real world.

Who Should Buy Each Trigger

Buy the Partisan Disruptor if:

  • You want the best price-to-performance ratio in the FRT market — $299 versus $499+ is hard to argue with
  • You're running a standard mil-spec AR-15 DI or piston build
  • You want a lighter, more consistent trigger pull across all selector modes
  • You want the cleanest, fastest drop-in install available
  • You want to buy from an authorized dealer who bundles the correct supporting hardware with the trigger
  • You want to support a small USA company that fought a $588M lawsuit and kept shipping

The only reason to consider Rare Breed:

  • You specifically want the ambidextrous selector the FRT-15L3 includes
  • You already own a Rare Breed and want a spare — consistency across builds
  • Budget is not a consideration and you want the original market name
Our honest take: The Partisan Disruptor is a better trigger for most AR-15 owners at every price point. Lighter pull, cleaner install, lower price, legally distinct patent that predates its competitor. The only thing Rare Breed has that Partisan doesn't is a longer time in the market — and that gap closes every week.

The Lawsuit — And Why It Makes Us More Confident in Partisan

Rare Breed filed suit against Partisan in early 2026 claiming the Disruptor infringed four of their patents. They claimed $588 million in lost profits. They asked for an emergency injunction to immediately halt Partisan sales.

The court denied it. On February 13, 2026 the judge ruled against Rare Breed's emergency relief on every major factor — likelihood of success, irreparable harm, balance of equities, and public interest all went Partisan's way.

More significantly — evidence at that hearing suggested Rare Breed's own FRT-15L3 may infringe Partisan's older '067 patent. The company that filed the lawsuit may be the one infringing. Partisan then filed a counter-suit on March 24, 2026 challenging Rare Breed's patents directly and alleging misconduct.

We've covered every development in this case in detail. The Partisan Disruptor is not going anywhere. It remains fully legal, fully available, and shipping today.

Common Questions

Is the Partisan Disruptor a copy of the Rare Breed FRT-15L3?
No. The Partisan Disruptor is built on US Patent 9146067, which predates Rare Breed's patents. Engineering testimony during the February 2026 court hearing confirmed the two triggers operate through mechanically distinct mechanisms. The court found insufficient likelihood that Rare Breed would succeed on its infringement claims.
Which FRT trigger has the lighter pull weight?
The Partisan Disruptor. It maintains a consistent 3.75–4.1 lb pull in both semi and FRT modes. The Rare Breed FRT-15L3 runs 4.5–5 lbs in semi and 6.5–7 lbs in FRT mode — significantly heavier in the mode you're likely buying it for.
Can I still buy the Partisan Disruptor despite the lawsuit?
Yes. The court denied Rare Breed's request for an injunction. The Partisan Disruptor remains fully available and we ship it daily. → Get yours here.
Is the Partisan Disruptor worth the price difference over Rare Breed?
Yes — for most AR-15 owners the answer is clear. You get lighter pull weight, cleaner drop-in install, and comparable FRT mode performance at $200 less. The only thing you're not getting is the Rare Breed brand name.
Where can I buy the Partisan Disruptor?
Right here at ARTakedownTool.com — an authorized Partisan dealer. We carry it standalone at $299 and as part of our complete bundle with M16 BCG and H2 buffer at $449.99.
