Pros & Cons — Straight Up

✓ What We Love
  • True drop-in cassette — installs in under 10 minutes, no fitting
  • $299 price point undercuts Rare Breed by $200+
  • Patent predates competitors — legally distinct mechanism
  • 6,000+ round durability tested to military evaluation standards
  • 17-4 stainless + 4140 chromoly wear surfaces — built to last
  • Runs reliably across 10+ magazine types
  • 100% USA made — not rebranded imports
  • FRT mode is fast, consistent, and reliable once dialed in
  • Compatible with both DI and piston AR-15 systems
✗ Honest Drawbacks
  • Semi-auto trigger feel is grittier than a dedicated match trigger
  • Safety selector is larger than standard AR-15 selectors
  • Selector detent feel is less crisp than mil-spec
  • Requires proprietary selector — no aftermarket selector compatibility
  • Does not run reliably in SIG MCX or 9mm PCC platforms
  • M16-cut lowers may need selector screw staking
  • H2/H3 buffer required — budget build owners need to factor this in
Bottom line on the semi-auto trigger feel: Buy the Partisan Disruptor for its FRT mode. In Enhanced Semi-Auto mode it is fast, consistent, and accurate. The semi-auto mode is functional but not a match trigger replacement. If you want the best drop-in FRT for AR-15, the Disruptor wins.

Real-World Performance

FRT Mode — Where It Shines

In Enhanced Semi-Auto (FRT) mode, the Partisan Disruptor does exactly what it's supposed to do. The BCG-driven reset is fast, consistent, and doesn't require any technique adjustment beyond maintaining rearward finger pressure. Independent testing recorded cyclic rates around 1,150 rounds per minute — putting it firmly in the same performance tier as the Rare Breed FRT-15L3.

In a four-target drill at 5 yards with 5 rounds per target, the Disruptor clocked 3.9 seconds in FRT mode versus 5.9 seconds in standard semi-auto — a 34% time reduction. For competition shooters or anyone who wants to maximize their AR-15's speed ceiling, that gap is significant.

FRT Mode Reliability9.5/10

Installation Ease9.8/10

Build Quality9.0/10

Semi-Auto Trigger Feel7.5/10

Value for Money9.8/10

Durability9.3/10

Durability — 6,000 Rounds and Counting

Partisan subjected the Disruptor to over 6,000 rounds under a course of fire derived from the USMC M27 IAR evaluation criteria — one of the most demanding durability tests in the civilian trigger market. The trigger passed. Independent reviewers running their own extended testing have confirmed the durability claims hold up in real-world conditions.

Wear surfaces are 17-4 stainless steel and 4140 chromoly — the same material spec used in quality mil-spec trigger components. This isn't a trigger that's going to wear out on you in 2,000 rounds.

Installation — Under 10 Minutes

The Partisan Disruptor's cassette design makes installation the most straightforward of any FRT on the market. Here's the complete process:

1
Clear and Safe
Remove magazine, lock bolt open, verify chamber empty.
2
Separate Upper from Lower
Push out both takedown pins. Set upper aside. Using The AR-Takedown Tool
3
Loosen Pistol Grip Screw
Loosen (don't remove) the pistol grip screw to allow safety removal.
4
Remove Existing Safety
Pull the existing safety selector out of the lower.
5
Remove Existing Trigger Group
Drive out hammer pin and trigger pin. The AR Takedown Tool's precision punch end makes this clean and damage-free. Remove hammer, trigger, disconnector, and springs.
6
Drop In the Partisan Cassette
Lower the cassette into the trigger pocket. Align pin holes and install trigger pins.
7
Install Partisan Safety Selector
Use a small tool to depress the safety detent if needed. The Partisan selector must be used — standard selectors are not compatible.
8
Install Anti-Walk Pins + Thread Locker
Install the included anti-walk pins with a Torx wrench and blue Loctite. Tighten pistol grip screw.
9
Reassemble + Function Check
Rejoin upper and lower. Verify all three selector positions, trigger reset, and hammer function before loading.
M16-cut lower owners: The extra clearance in an M16 or auto-sear pocket lower can allow the selector screw to back out under fire. Stake the screw or apply thread locker before your first range session.

Who Should Buy the Partisan Disruptor

  • AR-15 owners who want the best drop-in FRT at the best price — $299 vs $499+ for comparable performance is a real difference.
  • Shooters who want the fastest possible split times on a standard AR-15 platform — 1,150 RPM cyclic rate in FRT mode is as fast as the platform allows.
  • Competition shooters — the light 3.75–4.1 lb pull is CMP Service Rifle Match compliant.
  • Anyone who wants USA-made quality with verified durability data — 6,000 rounds under military evaluation criteria is real proof of concept.
  • Builders who don't want to spend hours fitting a trigger — drop-in cassette means you're done in 10 minutes.

Who should look elsewhere: If you're running a SIG MCX, a 9mm PCC, or another non-standard AR platform, the Partisan Disruptor isn't your trigger. The ARC-Fire V2 from AS Designs handles those platforms. For standard AR-15 builds, the Disruptor is the right call.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Partisan Disruptor legal?
Yes — federally legal following the May 2025 DOJ settlement confirming FRT triggers are not machine guns under the NFA. State restrictions apply in CA, CT, DE, HI, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, OR, RI, WA, and DC. See our full state-by-state legal guide.
Does the Partisan Disruptor infringe on Rare Breed's patent?
No. The Partisan Disruptor is built on US Patent 9146067, which predates Rare Breed's patents. Engineering testimony during the February 2026 injunction hearing confirmed the two triggers operate through mechanically distinct mechanisms. The Disruptor is an independently developed assisted reset trigger.
What buffer do I need for the Partisan Disruptor?
H2 minimum for carbine and mid-length builds. H3 recommended. We bundle it with an H2 buffer in our complete Partisan bundle. See our full buffer guide for FRT triggers for build-specific recommendations.
Can I use my existing safety selector with the Partisan Disruptor?
No. The Partisan Disruptor requires its included proprietary 3-position selector. Standard AR-15 safeties and aftermarket selectors will not function correctly with the cassette design.
What's the difference between the black and OD green Partisan Disruptor?
Cosmetic only — the black (Model 1) and OD Green (Model 2) versions are mechanically identical. Choose based on your build's color scheme.
Where can I buy the Partisan Disruptor?
We carry it here at ARTakedownTool.com as an authorized Partisan dealer — standalone at $299 or as part of our FRT + M16 BCG + H2 Buffer bundle at $449.99.
